Right L5 transforaminal injection

A-P fluoroscopic image demonstrating proper needle placement and contrast outlining the left L5 nerve root. This procedure is typically performed for a condition that causes irritation to the left L5 nerve root, such as a foraminal disc extrusion at L5-S1 or a paracentral disc herniation at L4-5. A mixture of steroid and local anesthetic is injected surrounding the offending nerve root following contrast administration. In cases of uncertainty, this procedure may also be performed with local anesthetic alone for diagnostic purposes.
