How much stress on the body does sitting cause? More than people may think. An article from the Washington Post illustrates how much of an impact it can cause on the entire body. Poor posture causes increased stress and potential risk of injury on the spine. In addition, prolonged periods of inactivity causes gradual muscle atrophy throughout the entire body, increased inflexibility, and poorer circulation.
Given the increased use of computers and smartphones in this day and age, it becomes even more important to be aware of how much stress one’s posture can contribute to daily aches and pains as well as potentially increase the risk for injuries.
