PRP Shows Benefit for Hamstring Injuries

Hamstring injuries some of the most common injuries in athletes.  Despite aggressive conservative treatments, it can take a few months to be able to return to play and several months to fully recover.  A new article in the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows potential benefit in treating acute hamstring injuries (Grade 2a).  Using a single PRP injection combined with a rehabilitation program was found to be significantly more effective in treating hamstring injuries than a rehabilitation program alone.  Athletes were able to return to play on average in 27 days in those treated with PRP compared to 43 days in those who underwent physical therapy alone.
