Discover Exciting New Services by Dr. Chator at Long Island Spine Rehabilitation Medicine

At Long Island Spine Rehabilitation Medicine, we are delighted to introduce you to the latest additions to our comprehensive range of services, courtesy of our newest team member, Dr. Areeb Chator. Despite joining our esteemed team just last September, Dr. Chator has seamlessly integrated into our family of exceptional physicians, infusing his impressive background and positive energy into our practice.

Dr. Chator’s introduction and continuance of several innovative services further enrich our holistic approach to healthcare. Building on our foundation of traditional treatments such as physical therapy and corticosteroid injections, as well as complementary therapies like acupuncture and PEMF, Dr. Chator now offers three cutting-edge treatments:

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy, also known as regenerative or proliferation therapy, involves an injection  into damaged tendons or ligaments to relieve pain and stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The solution of dextrose (sugar) acts as an irritant that promotes tissue repair, reducing pain and jumpstarting the body’s ability to repair tissue.

Most often, Dr. Chator uses prolotherapy for disorders of, and injuries to, tendons and various joint conditions. Prolotherapy treatments can be helpful in dealing with a wide range of common musculoskeletal conditions, including hip bursitis, rotator cuff injuries, plantar fasciitis, and problems with the Achilles tendon.

PRP Therapy for Sports/Musculoskeletal Cases

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy harnesses the healing properties of the patient’s blood by enriching it with a concentration of the patient’s own platelets. This accelerates tissue repair and relieves the pain associated with sports injuries and other musculoskeletal problems.

After drawing blood from the patient, we put the blood through a centrifuge to separate the platelets. Platelets are blood cells rich not only in clotting properties but in growth factors as well. Therefore, when we inject blood enriched with platelets back into your body, we enhance your healing ability to a marked degree.

Acute Concussion Treatment

Using evidence-based protocols, Dr. Chator provides specialized care for individuals who have suffered acute concussions. In treating concussions, accurate diagnosis is a top priority since ruling out other concomitant diagnoses or more concerning symptoms is essential. Concussion management largely focuses on evaluating the patient’s condition and offering them guidance relative to when they should return to work, play, or their regular routine. Such guidance is imperative for successful treatment.

We also use physical and/or vestibular therapy with patients who have suffered concussions. Vestibular therapy is designed to train the patient to manage symptoms of dizziness and imbalance. Because patients with acute concussions are often also suffering neck/whiplash injuries or other musculoskeletal pain, we often prescribe one or more of our other treatment options, such as medications, corticosteroid injections, PEMF, or acupuncture. If necessary, we refer our concussion patients to a neuropsychologist.
